چکیده

In this paper, we extend the recently introduced concept of fractional wavelet transform to obtain directional subbands of an image. Fractional wavelet decomposition is based on two-channel unbalanced lifting structures whereby it is possible to decompose a given discretetime signal x[n] sampled with period T into two sub-signals x1[n] and x2[n] whose average sampling periods are pT and qT , respectively. Fractions p and q are rational numbers satisfying the condition: 1/p+1/q = 1. Filters used in the lifting structure are designed using the Lagrange interpolation formula. 2-d separable and non-separable extensions of the proposed fractional wavelet transform are developed. Using a non-separable unbalanced lifting structure, directional subimages for five different directions are obtained.

Fractional Wavelet Transform Using an Unbalanced Lifting Structure

In this article, we introduce the concept of fractional wavelet transform. Using a two-channel unbalanced lifting structure it is possible to decompose a given discrete-time signal x[n] sampled with period T into two sub-signals x1[n] and x2[n] whose average sampling periods are pT and qT , respectively. Fractions p and q are rational numbers satisfying the condition: 1/p+ 1/q = 1. The low-band...

The Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform – A Coherent Framework for Multiscale Signal and Image Processing

The dual-tree complex wavelet transform (CWT) is a relatively recent enhancement of the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) with important additional properties: It is nearly shift-invariant and directionally selective in two and higher dimensions. It achieves this with a redundancy factor of only 2 for d-dimensional signals, which is substantially lower than the undecimated DWT. The multidimensio...

Lifting-based Wavelet Transform with Directionally Spatial Prediction

This paper incorporates the directionally spatial prediction (DSP) into the conventional lifting-based wavelet transforms and proposes a novel, efficient and flexible lifting structure (referred as DSP-lifting hereafter). Each lifting stage can be performed at the direction, where pixels have a strong correlation, rather than always at the horizontal or vertical direction. The proposed DSP enab...

Non-separable 3D integer wavelet transform for lossless data compression

This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) integer wavelet transform with reduced amount of rounding noise. Non-separable multi-dimensional lifting structures are introduced to decrease the total number of lifting steps. Since the lifting step contains a rounding operation, variance of the rounding noise generated due to the rounding operation inside the transform is reduced. This paper also ...

Non-Redundant, Directionally Selective, Complex Wavelets

Poor directional selectivity, a major disadvantage of the 2D separable discrete wavelet transform (DWT), has heretofore been circumvented either by using highly redundant, nonseparable wavelet transforms or by using restrictive designs to obtain a pair of wavelet trees. In this paper, we demonstrate that superior directional selectivity may be obtained with no redundancy in any separable wavele...
